The Garnacha de Secastilla was harvested during the first week of October, after the Syrah and Parraleta grapes had been harvested during the second half of September.
In all three cases the harvest was done manually, and the grapes were destemmed at the foot of the vineyard to begin the maceration process right there.
After refrigeration, alcoholic fermentation was carried out at a temperature below 25ºC for twelve days.
After racking, the wine was naturally clarified by decantation, and three rackings were carried out before filling the French oak barrels, where it remained for eight months.
Once the barrel aging process was complete, the wine was filtered and bottled.
It has an alcoholic strength of 14%, a pH of 3.42, a total acidity of 5.23 g/l and a residual sugar of 2.55 g/l.
The vineyards of the Secastilla Valley are located in the northeasternmost part of Somontano and have a special “Mediterranean microclimate”.
Viñas del Vero cultivates 48 hectares of vineyards in this valley, mainly Garnacha along with Parraleta and Syrah.
The relative altitude and special orientation of these vineyards make it an area with many hours of sunshine, which favors the ripening of the fruit.
This entire valley is dryland and the soils are sandy loam with quite a lot of stoniness.
The Viñas del Vero winery owes its name to a river in the Somontano region, the Vero River, famous for its ravines, gorges and canyons.
The Viñas del Vero winery was established in Somontano at the end of 1986 with the acquisition of 550 hectares of land in Barbastro and other nearby towns.
In 2008, Viñas del Vero became part of the González Byass Wine Family.
