Rioja, made from the grape varieties 91% Tempranillo and 9% Graciano.

At Marqués de Riscal, within its Historical Reserve, there were winemaker's wines such as Reserva Medoc and XR without being commercial names.

In the style of Jerez foremen, the winemaker marked some of his barrels with chalk with the word XR (Extra Reserva) after finding some special characteristics that were not found in others.

This XR was never commercialized, but it was always a reference point for the master winemaker.

This custom lasted for almost a century, between the harvests of 1869 and 1964.

The XR 2015, its first vintage, is a tribute to all the master winemakers who, from Jean Pineau to the present day, have contributed to forging a part of the best history of Spanish wine at Marqués de Riscal.

Aging: 26 months in American oak barrels.

Optimal serving temperature: Between 16 and 18ºC.

The history of Bodegas Marqués de Riscal is the story of an innovative, pioneering company and a benchmark in a wine sector in continuous transformation.

The winery was founded in 1858 by Guillermo Hurtado de Amézaga.

In 1862 their first wines were bottled, thus becoming the oldest bottled wines in Rioja.

A few years after its founding, the winery quickly began to win numerous awards, but one of the most important came in 1895, when Marqués de Riscal became the first non-French wine to receive the Diploma of Honor from the Bordeaux Exhibition.

In 1972 Marqués de Riscal began the production of the first white wines from Rueda and, in recent years, the winery has dared to incorporate two new designations into the project, V.
