Heron creates Southern Comfort in his bar on "Bourbon" Street in New Orleans.
In his quest to expand his business in 1889, he opened a new bar on Beale Street in Memphis and began bottling Southern Comfort.
The original label was designed by Heron and bore the phrase: "It's not genuine, but it's mine."
In 1904 Southern Comfort won the gold medal for quality and flavor at the world competition in St. Louis.

Heron opened a new bar in St. Louis and created the "St.
"Luis Cocktail" a Southern Comfort drink with a lemon mix that was served with the warning: "Only two per customer."
After the prohibition, production of the drink resumed and a new label was introduced on the bottle with a lithograph of a southern plantation on the banks of the Mississippi.
In 1939, as a tribute to the movie "Gone with the Wind," Southern Comfort introduced the "Scarlet O'Hara" cocktail, a drink made from cherry juice garnished with a lime.
It is one of the preferred blends made with Southern Comfort.
