Bodegas Manuel Quintano presents the Manuel Quintano White Wine from the Rioja Designation of Origin (Spain), made from the Viura and Tempranillo Blanco grape varieties.
Manuel Quintano was a historical figure in the 18th century as the precursor of the modern Rioja wine we know today.
Bodegas Solagüen wanted to pay tribute to this figure with the firm's "cum laude": Manuel Quintano Reserva Especial.
A red wine that comes from very old vines with an average age of 55 years, located at an altitude between 500 and 600 meters in the municipality of Labastida, in the heart of the best area of Rioja.
For the production of this wine, four plots of Viura, approximately 70 years old, and a small plot of Tempranillo Blanco were selected.
The average altitude of the vineyard is 600 meters and the soil is clay-limestone.
The 2018 campaign was the latest in many years.
Rain and snow were abundant in a cold winter that caused a delay from bud break that the vine did not recover throughout the cycle.
The result: a fresh vintage with medium alcohol content and balanced acidity.
Cold pre-fermentation maceration for 24 hours.
Very gentle pressing and static settling.
Alcoholic fermentation in French oak barrels of different uses and capacities, from 225 to 500 liters.
Subsequent aging for 8 months in those same barrels with its own fermentation lees, which are periodically resuspended.
