Bodega Santa Ema presents the Santa Ema Select Terroir Reserva Merlot Red Wine from the Central Valley Designation of Origin (Chile), made from 100% Merlot grape varieties.

Awards: James Suckling 90 points Vintage 2021 The Santa Ema Select Terroir Reserva Merlot Red Wine comes from the Central Valley, one of the most important wine-growing regions in Chile.

This valley lies between the two mountain ranges, the Andes and the Coastal Range, which exert a significant influence on the characteristics of the grapes.

The temperate Mediterranean climate of the Central Valley, with cold winters and hot, dry summers, is ideal for growing high-quality grapevines.

The 2022 harvest season was marked by a relatively dry winter, followed by a cold spring.

During the summer, temperatures remained mild at first, but became hot towards the end, allowing the grapes to ripen properly, albeit with a slight delay.

This situation even brought forward the harvest of white grapes.

Autumn remained dry and warm, which helped to even out the ripening of the red grape varieties, finishing the harvest on the usual dates.

The yields were slightly lower than expected, but the result was good quality wines, aromatic, balanced and with adequate acidity.

The grapes for Santa Ema Select Terroir Reserva Merlot red wine were crushed and fermented in stainless steel tanks for a period of 7 days at 28°C, followed by a post-fermentation maceration of 3 days.

After malolactic fermentation, part of the wine evolved in oak barrels for a period of 4 to 6 months, which added greater complexity to the final blend.

40% of this wine's blend was aged in oak barrels for a period of 4 to 6 months, contributing wood notes that enrich its aromatic and gustatory profile.
