O Valdeorras (Spain) made from the Mencía grape variety.

Created in 1991, this red wine showcases the purest essence of Mencía from Valdeorras.

Its production confirms that there is life beyond the magnificent Godello white wines of the region.

With a marked Atlantic character, a large and intense fruit load and an energetic minerality.

CultivationThe grape variety used is Mencía, from vineyards of small farms of local winegrowers in the towns of Rubiá, a Rúa, Petín and O Bolo, located on slopes of slate soil, at an average altitude of 500 meters and various orientations.

Hand-harvested, fermented with native yeasts and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks.

The vines are between 10 and 30 years old.

They are characterized by having a shallow colluvial soil, derived from the weathering of black slate rock.

As for the climate, it is humid Mediterranean with a continental tendency, in which temperatures and rainfall are staggered.

Production: It is done through a manual harvest in 20 kg boxes, rapid transport to the winery and selection table.

Thus, a cold pre-fermentation is carried out for 4 days, after which a fermentation by wild yeasts is done in an open steel tank with daily pump-overs for 15 days.

Finally, it has a 9-month aging process in a steel tank with periodic racking.

If we are referring to the recommended consumption temperature, it is 16 ºC.

In this way, it also needs a few minutes of aeration to offer its full potential.
