The legend from the 17th century tells of a young Spanish noblewoman residing in Jamaica who was forced to flee her property due to a conflict.

This aristocrat was accompanied by a maid carrying a family jewelry box containing black pearls and a liqueur recipe.

In honor of this maid, this liquor was named after her.

Beyond the myth, it is believed that the drink was created by Dr. Kenneth Leigh Evas in Jamaica during the 1950s and became very popular in the 1980s thanks to international advertising campaigns featuring the model Iman.

It's perfect to drink on its own, with coffee, or can be used to make a multitude of cocktails such as the Tia Maria Frappé or the classic Espresso Martini.
