O Valdeorras (Spain) made from the Mencía grape variety.

Concello wine that is made from a selection of mencías from the fishes (plots) of the oldest vineyard in Carballeda de Valdeorras.

The black slate soils and its aging in oak deliver a balsamic, spicy red wine with a mineral touch.

Cultivation: These are vineyards distributed in 'Pezas' or plots with up to 45% slope and north exposure, cultivated in goblet style at an altitude between 600 and 800 meters above sea level, in the municipality of Carballeda de Valdeorras.

The vines are between 60 and 105 years old.

They are characterized by having a colluvial soil, derived from the weathering of black slate rock.

As for the climate, it is humid Mediterranean with a continental tendency, in which temperatures and rainfall are staggered.

On the other hand, the harvest is done by hand.

It also has a cold pre-fermentation maceration for 3 days.

Fermentation and maceration in used barrels without lids and with manual 'pipeage' for 15 days.

Malolactic fermentation also takes place in barrels.

As for its aging, it is aged for 9 months in used French oak barrels with a capacity of 225 liters.

If we are referring to the recommended consumption temperature, it is 16 ºC.

In this way, it also needs a few minutes of aeration to offer its full potential.

It is recommended to consume until approximately 2022, provided, of course, that it is stored in optimal conditions.
